Online, Inexpensive, Good Applied Behavior Analysis (ABA)

Hi Parents,

This just came across one of my listserves with an ok to pass it on. Wow, does it look promising for families with kids with autism, who want to give their the only scientific treatment for autism.

For those of you who are not as familiar with ABA, it is a framework for teaching (mostly) young children with autism. Decisions for next steps are actually based on DATA! Tasks to be learned are broken down into small steps. It includes repetition until you get mastery. It works if you do it well – and it is totally researched based. (It’s what I learned while training in special education back in the 70’s.) ABA is typically incredibly expensive (usually $30 – $60K a year) to run a good ABA program, which is why I was shocked at the decent monthly price this program costs — it’s actually affordable (about $1200 a year)! And their advisory board looks great! Check it out.

Here’s the original post:

I am writing to inform you about rethink autism! www.rethinkautism.com, an innovative internet-based ABA curriculum for children with autism. I have been actively involved in the project by serving as their Clinical Advisor. Rethink autism’s comprehensive curriculum has video demonstrations of teaching interactions for every program in the curriculum. The web platform allows you to track learner performance by entering data and the assessment tool recommends programs as you move through the curriculum.

There is also the option to choose specific programs for your child or student. The extensive video library demonstrates a range of teaching interactions from answering questions, to initiating joint attention, to imitating a peer! Never before has a curriculum offered video demonstrations of so many essential skills.

One of the more exciting components of the web-based platform is that new programs, videos and ABA-based teaching strategies will be added regularly, keeping users informed of the latest in state-of-the art research-based teaching interventions.
Rethink autism is committed to science-based interventions and has engaged an impressive Scientific Advisory Board:
Dr. Peter Gerhardt
Dr. James Carr
Dr. William R. Jensen
Dr. Fred R. Volkmar
Dr. Michael Alessandri
Hannah Hoch, PhD, BCBA, is their Director of Training and
Research.
